First Week and AEK beats Keravnos

First Week and AEK beats Keravnos

The official premier of the the Cyprus Basket league has officially begun and the oppener (a derby between AEK and Keravnos - The cup holder and the champion) found the home team of Coach Kukuris to be the absolute winner against Coach Livadiotis troops..

AEK beat Keravnos in the first derby of the season quite easily as the Strovolos coaching team had serious issues in the rotation of the team as Anthony King was injured and the overall team dismantled in a way against Coach Kukuris troops who had in an awesome day two players who scored the 40% of the overall points of the team.. AEK Larnakas who showed (after the super cup triumph, which took place ten days ago) which team is going to be the boss this season in the Cyprus league. The final score 84-75 is totally fair as AEK Larnakas had a much better rotation that their opponents, since Coach Leivadiotis for another game this season preferred to go on a very short rotation with just seven players (Anthony King was absent) while the Cyprus Coach used Barker for 38!! Minutes, Parks for 32 and from then and on Abukar played less than 29 with Tre Bussey (190-G-91, college: Georgia South) Simon Michael and Davis playing between 25-26 minutes and the veteran Neophytou for a bit less than 18, so this short rotation couldn't actually cope against the much better and bigger rotation of Greek head Coach Koukouris who used on his favour his 10 of twelve squad and that was the basic difference of the derby, bigger rotation, more options, better play clearer head and more solutions..
About the characteristics of the game now, AEK Larnakas basically killed the Strovolos team from the first half and mainly the second period where the players of the home team outscored their opponent by 15 points, 46-31 and gave an early end to the game as mentioned above, the visitors couldn't do anything more than minimize the final deficit. An awesome game by the well known to the Cyprus audience, American player Tyreek Duren (183-PG-91, college: La Salle) who was unstoppable, ending the game with 27 points, and 13of 14 free throws!, 3 assists, 4 steals, 3 rebounds, 8 winning fouls!! Coach Leivadiotis couldn't stop him even though he tried with a couple of his players... Followed by the very good Danilo Tasic who was the top rebounder of his team ending with 16 points, 9 rebounds and Shane Gibson (188-G-90, college: Sacred Heart) with 15 points 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals, while Searcy ended the game with 9.
On the other hand, the champions saw their top player being Bussey who ended the game with 16 points followed by the improved Parks 15 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals, but... 1/8 free thorws!!!, and Barker's 14 points while Abukar' 12 points were not enough for his team. Abukar had a medium game with 4/10 2pointers, 4/7 free throws and 0/2 3pointers..
In general AEK had 88% from the charity line compare to 55% of the very bad Keravnos 17/31 while the turnovers were 16 for AEK and 19 for Keravnos, the rest of the stats were more or less the same . So AEK went to 1-0 against Keravnos of 0-1 and -9 difference.

On the other game of the premier day, ETHA beat quite difficult EN Paralimni with 83-76 with top scorer and MVP of the game being Lamar Wright (191-G-85, college: Kean) who ended the game with 23 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Hollimon's 18 and 7 rebounds and Brooks 11. On the other hand, Paralimni saw Teyvon Myers (188-G-94, college: W.Virginia) scoring 21 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, followed by Kyser's 18 points and 16 rebounds and Atwwod's 16 points
