Week 16: AEK Larnakas for the repeat...

Week 16: AEK Larnakas for the repeat...

In the suppose to be derby between the top seated AEK Larnakas and the second seated Keravnos Strovolou, the home team and least year’s champion AEK Larnakas beat for  a third consecutive time Keravnos and showed simply that is dominating in their in between games (the score at this stage is 3-1 for AEK).

Coach Linos Gavriel troops even though they played without the Cyprus international point guard Palalas, and their main center Brezec, enter the game with power and guts and in no time  dominated in both edges with the Canadian newcomer in Keravnos Walker receiving an amazing block shot and the parameter of AEK with Bowman and McFadden being accurate. The 6-0 became very fast 9-2 as the newcomer Ross (who replaced Massamba who joined forces with Coach Tonis Konstantinides in the Kosovo league) blocked at his very first attempt to score in the game.. Barker was there for Keravnos to score some personal points and with Ross’s first three pointer in Keravnos jersey, the visitors balance the game to 9-9. 4.34’, that was it for Keravnos, AEK reacted and with an awesome 8-1 finish the first period with 17-10. Keravnos scored just 1 point in 4.34’

The second period was more balance for the two teams, with Keravnos trying to cut the deficit and AEK keep increasing it. McFadden made a double digit deficit for the first time (25-15) 2.14’ before the end of the first half, but Barker (the only real thread for AEK) with continuous points cut the deficit once more to 25-21. The first half’s score shaped up to 27-21 by McFadden’s 10th point.

The 3rd period was the best for both teams with Keravnos scoring nearly half of his total points at this period and AEK keeping up the paste and not having any problems not only to control the game but to increase the deficit too. Keravnos without its top scorer (Smotrycz didn’t play for another one game for Keravnos) had main difficulties in scoring while on the other hand, the duet McFadden and Bowman found a third partner as Parish Brown added some serious scoring in one of his best games with AEK’s jersey. 5.27 to the end of the 3rd period the score went sky-high with McFadden’s 18th point (40-24) which actually close and typically the “so called” derby between the teams. Keravnos tried mainly with O’Brien and Ross and cut the deficit to 42-34 and after Stylianou entered in the equitation, the deficit minimized even more to 45-36, 1.24’ to the end. 50-41 was the score in the third period.

The final period became a derby for a minute as Keravnos with 5 personal points by Ross cut the deficit to 50-46, 8.28’ to the end of the game… That was it for Keravnos from their and on, the Strovolos team got stacked and Coach Livadiotis players couldn’t score at all. An amazing 8.28 for the visitors who scored simply one basket to finally and obviously lose the game with the poor 59-48!!
