Cyprus Cup: AEK will play against APOEL in the finals

AEK beat Keravnos and APOEL beat ETHA in a dramatic pair of Semi Finals

After an awesome derby and with an amazing captain, Linos Gavriel troops kicked out Keravnos in the semi finals and will play against APOEL, in Saturday’s Cup’s Final.

Iakovos Panteli became Thadeus McFadden and was scoring from all over to give finally a glorious victory and a position in the Cyprus Cup’s final. The MVP of the Semi finals scored 20 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals to be the star of the night.

About the game now, the two (probably best teams at this stage in the league) teams enter into the court with Keravnos being surprisingly dominant at all edges and with Barker on a crazy mood and with very good defense over McFadden, Keravnos took a lead with 21-9 in the first ten minutes making a dreamy start. Keravnos was much better and that was proved in the court at this early beginning.

In the second period though the roles changed entirely and with AEK’s big guys dominating in the two edges, AEK outscored Keravnos with 13-26 in this second period to go to half time with 34-35 with Brezec scoring 11 points at this period.

The third period was more balanced with the two teams exchanging baskets but with AEK keeping a small deficit at the end of the period with 16-17 and 50-52 in an absolute derby between the two teams.

In the last period and where the ball was too heavy for some players, Iakovos Panteli, the captain of AEK was present to finally offering the chance to the few AEK’s fans to celebrate their spot in the finals.

 APOEL – ETHA 92-89

An amazing derby took place in the second semi final where ETHA came back and nearly succeeding an amazing surprise after coming back from  -19 points at the end of the first half (57-38) to take the game to the final second where Henry and Pack lost the chance to give the victory to their team as 16 seconds before the end Henry lost the layup and Pack even though he grabbed the offensive rebound he was not able to score the winning basket..

MVP of the game was Tyrrell Biggs as the power forward of APOEL was present at the very last seconds where he scored both the free throws to make his points 18 in total together with the 6 rebounds he dashed down the 2 steals and the block shot he made.

The game was a derby with a lot of suspense and a thrilling end, with APOEL taking over in the first half initially with a 25-18 at the first period with Dubois scoring 9 points and at the second period Vovoras troops dominated and reached the +19 at the end of the half time with Biggs having 14 points, Heath 11 and Ramsey 8. On the other hand Coach Skarafingas troops were in a bad shape and with many missing shots and even from the charity line ETHA’s players were not so accurate.

The third period though it was magic for ETHA, one could say that it would have been easier for APOEL to finish the game once and for all but the amazing game by Golden not only they cover up the -19 but 1.20’’ to the end of the 3rd period Cumberbatch with his 9th point gave the leading position for a first time in the game with 70-71. This third period ended with 73-70 for APOEL but with ETHA coming back to the game with an awesome 16-33, ETHA scored 38 points in 20 minutes and 33 in ten!!

The 4th and most crucial period of the game the two teams were exchanging basket on  a balance mode with the score at the last four dramatic minutes changing leader for as many as 10 times and finally Pack and Henry missed the chance to take their team for a second consecutive time to the finals.
