Week 10: Great Road win for AEK Larnakas against APOEL!

Week 10: Great Road win for AEK Larnakas against APOEL!

On the 10th week the "Euro AEK' Larnacas proved to everybody that is going to be once more the top favorite team to win this season's champion trophy with one way or another as tonight without the assistance of two of the most useful players of the team due to injuries as Primoz Brezec, and Iacovos Panteli were injures, Coach Linos Gavriel beat the well shaped and formed team of APOEL (at his home-court) with 67-72 and is heading all the way to the full home court advantage and probably the title.

The game was a derby from the early start with AEK showing from the beginning its winning character as with Parish Brown (6 points) and Thaddus McFadden (188-G-87) (8 points) took a small lead at the end of the period with 20-22 with APOEL finding solutions mostly by Kounas who had 8 points at this early stage.
On the second period the defenses got tougher for both the teams and the nerves stronger with Turner dominating at this stage in both edges (8 points 4 rebounds, 1 block shot) APOEL cut the deficit to its minimum in a poor 14-13 period and the first half found the two teams to 34-35 with Bowman scoring 7 points and succeeding 3 steals.

On the third period though everything changed as AEK got into the court with obvious tactic and withThaddus McFadden being the player who beat a number of European teams the last month.. With an accurate game the American player scored 10 points on the specific period and with Bowman on the second role, gave a deficit to +8 at the end of the period with APOEL of Coach Vovoras having trouble at both edges of the court even though AEK was playing without the starters PAnteli and Brezec. Heath was all alone and quite tired even though he had 15 points by the end of the period it was obvious that he needed some back up, The other APOEL players scored at this stage were Biggs with 2 shots from the charity line and Kounas another one free throw, nobody else was able to score these ten minutes for the home team!!

The 4th and final period was the most important for last years champion's as they showed a solid character and initially with Bowman giving a double digit deficit 8.14'' before the end (48-58) and then the 20th point byThaddus McFadden for the 52-61, 6.36'' to the end were keeping a safe-deficit for the visitors, At that stage Biggs woke up and together with Heath and Sizopoulos after Petrovic's turnover cut the deficit to 60-63, 4.30 to the end giving some real hopes to their hundreds of fans in the court. While some seconds after with Sizopoulos, APOEL took the lead for the first time from the beginning with 64-63 3.32'' to the end. With Biggs increasing the deficit even more a minute after to 66-63 with AEK remaining pointless for more than three minutes,..but Thaddus McFadden was there!! The instinct of the super player riced up and with an offensive rebound (after the missing shot by Bowman) and a goal foul brought the game to the absolute balance 1.39'' to the end. Heath's missed shot and Palalas turnover with Kounas missed shot gave the chance to the American MVP to score the most crucial three pointer 27'' to the end to actually sign the victory for his team as Sizopoulos missed the one of two free throws 13'' to the end and Thaddus McFadden made his points 28 with another pair of free throws before Trisokkas succeed in one of the two free throws and shape up the final score of 67-72 in an awesome game..

Top scorers:

APOEL: Heath 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 turnovers, Kounas 11 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals with 3 turnovers, Biggs 10 points with 7 rebounds and 3 turnovers and Sizopoulos 10 points.

AEK: Thaddus McFadden 28 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 turnovers in 39.17'' in the court!, Brown 11 points and 4 assists, Bowman 16 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals..
